The Journey Home

My sister went outside to walk her dog in a quiet suburb of Connecticut all around her the resounding sound of basketballs echoed on black top driveways. She told me that she could feel the beauty in the moment of such simplicity, moms and dads on driveways.

As we are all impacted by this unprecedented time in our world, yesterday in Oahu, Hawaii, we were ordered to stay in place until April 30.  Knowing this may be happening a friend and I headed to the beach on Saturday.  As we sat there, we could see sea turtles in the distance and then one came out of the water to the shore right in front of us. Grabbing the sand, it gently moved forward as the wave washed over its shell.

The turtle is a sacred figure in Native American Symbolism it represents Mother Earth. The meaning of the turtle symbol signifies good health and long life. The hard shell of the turtle presents perseverance and protection.

I thought how the turtle could teach me to let the waves of emotions wash over me and to watch my mindset when I go to a future worry and to stay in the moment. Like right now, I am typing on my keyboard, birds are cooing in the background and my refrigerator gently hums.

I lean on the spiritual daily, through meditation and prayer and connection.  Small gifts from the Mainland like free online yoga classes from my old studio grounds me to what is familiar and online zoom calls allow me to see my family all in one place.

As we ride this daily tide of change, I am reminded to be a bridge builder from the old to what is birthing forth. My arms are stretched, and I imagine all of us arm in arm moving together.

I am here don’t hesitate to reach out for support, resources. Together we stay connected.

Love,

Louisa

P.S. I love to connect, feel free to comment.
